Crossbeam appoints co-founder Akerman as CTO

Crossbeam Systems Inc., a Boxborough-based security plaform developer for high-performance networks, has named Mike Akerman as chief technology officer of the company. Akerman co-founded the network security hardware company in early 2000.

Akerman has been operating as director of advanced technology for Crossbeam, where he helped develop the company’s X-Series architecture. Prior to Crossbeam, he served as vice president of engineering for software maker Intrusic Inc., which later shut down in 2007. Akerman also co-founded and worked as director of engineering for Xylan Corp.’s service provider business unit.

Akerman graduated with a master’s degree in applied physics from University of Latvia and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
