Qteros Inc., a Marlborough developer of cellulosic ethanol, has named Christopher Dale as the company’s first vice president of research and development.
Dale joins Qteros having most recently served as head of microbial technology for Lonza, a life sciences company based in Switzerland. There, he was responsible for directing U.S. research and development in the areas of bioprocess design, scale-up and technology transfer. Previous jobs include a position as vice president of technology at Cambrex Biopharma, as well as senior roles in manufacturing and process development for Covance Biotechnology Services, SmithKline Beecham Biologicals and the University of Birmingham’s Centre for Biochemical Engineering.
Dale earned a doctorate degree in biochemistry from the University of Birmingham.
The announcement of Dale’s appointment in the new position follows Qteros’ news last week of raising $22 million in a Series C round and inking a partnership deal with major Indian ethanol firm Praj Industries Ltd., setting the stage for commercialization within 18 to 24 months.
Qteros has developed a microbe, dubbed Q Microbe, that aims to produce ethanol from non-food feedstocks.
