Viridity CEO role filled by former Aveksa chief Oberoi

By Kyle Alspach

Viridity Software Inc. has named Arun Oberoi, former CEO of Aveksa Inc. and a former executive at IBM and HP, as its new president and CEO, effective immediately, the company said Tuesday.

Viridity, based in Burlington, is an energy management software firm focused on energy efficiency at data centers. Oberoi succeeds former CEO Bob Steinkrauss, who recently decided to leave the position for health reasons, according to Viridity.

Oberoi had served as CEO at Aveksa, a Waltham enterprise access governance software firm, since March 2008. Aveksa named Vick Viren Vaishnavi as president and CEO earlier this month.

Prior to Aveksa, Oberoi had served as an executive vice president for California-based Micromuse Inc., which was acquired by IBM in 2006 for $865 million. Oberoi continued as a vice president within IBM Tivoli, overseeing worldwide expansion, according to Viridity.

Oberoi had previously held a series of senior executive positions at HP, including vice president and general manager of HP Worldwide Software Sales and Marketing.

Viridity raised $8 million in a Series B round in August from Battery Ventures and North Bridge Venture Partners, both of Waltham. Viridity previously raised $7 million in a Series A round in late 2008 from the same investors.

The company expanded its staff by a dozen employees, to 30, in July amid rising demand for energy efficiency services, a company executive previously told Mass High Tech.
