By Lynette F. Cornell

Robotics non-profit FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) will receive up to $20 million over the next five years from NASA. Based in Manchester, N.H., FIRST  hosts a yearly robotics competition for kids and other education events related to robotics. New Hampshire inventor Dean Kamen founded the organization in 1989 by as a way to cultivate student interest in STEM topics.

NASA is the largest organization involved with FIRST and has participated since 1995, according to the press release. In the past 19 years, the release said, the RAP has issued approximately $40 million to academic and nonprofit organizations associated with robotics.
