Gotuit goes south in sale to N.C.’s Digitalsmiths

By Rodney H. Brown

Gotuit Media Corp., a Woburn-based online digital media products company, has been purchased by North Carolina company Digitalsmiths Corp. for an undisclosed amount.

Digitalsmiths provides video metadata products so content creators and carriers can index their stores of video and media content for searching and monetization, according to officials.

Mark Pascarella, CEO of Gotuit, will stay with the company through the transition and will have a seat on the Digitalsmiths advisory board.

Gotuit is backed by investors, including Atlas Venture and Highland Capital Partners. The company has raised approximately $20 million. Digitalsmiths also has a local investor connection. The company has received funding from Boston-based .406 Ventures, as well as Chrysalis Ventures, The Aurora Fund and Cisco Systems.

The company lists television networks such as ESPN, ABC and Fox among its customers.

Gotuit media has been a repeat winner of the Massachusetts Innovation and Technology Exchange (MITX) Technology awards, taking the prize for the Rich Media category in June of this year, and for the Digital Media category in 2007.
