MITX awards turns 15 and SapientNitro smiles at its big wins
By Rodney H. Brown
It was all smiles at the 15th Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange (MITX) awards last night, as the Best of Show and the Best Technology awards went to SapientNitro for its Smile Activated Vending Machine.
The awards were presented last night at a sold-out event at the Boston Marriott Copley Place, and new MITX President Debi Kleiman credited the MITX staff with helping make the first awards under her tenure run very smoothly. Kleiman assumed the role last month, replacing former president Kiki Mills, who has moved to the West Coast. Prior to coming to MITX, Kleiman was vice president of product marketing and sales operations at Communispace Corp.
The SapientNitro technology has already seen its first use, appropriately enough in an ice cream vending machine called “Share Happy” made by the industrial giant Unilever. The machine doled out free ice cream to people who smiled at it, driven by the SapientNitro technology.
A judging committee of more than 100 people from the media, industry analysts, academics, creative directors, chief technology officers, webmasters, developers, producers and marketing executives and strategists, helped pick the winners in the 25 categories. The 2010 MITX Award winners include:
