Boston venture capital firm .406 Ventures is going out to raise a second fund, targeting $175 million, according to a regulatory filing posted this morning.
The firm, named .406 after the 1941 batting average of Red Sox legend Ted Williams, raised its first fund in March 2008 at $167 million. The firm was founded by three partners: former Razorfish CFO Larry Begley, former Guardent co-founder Maria Cirino and Liam Donohue, former founder of venture firm Arcadia Partners. Fund I investments number at least 18 and include IT security firms Bit9 Inc., Business Intelligence Advisors Inc. and ChosenSecurity, wood pellet heating company American Biomass and web marketing company RatePoint.
Reached this morning by phone, Donohue declined to comment, citing SEC restrictions.
Editor's note: Contrary to an earlier version of this story, .406 is not an investor in Crimson Hexagon.
