Boston Scientific begins trial of device to treat Parkinson's disease

Natick medical devices giant Boston Scientific Corp. has begun to enroll patients in a clinical trial of the company’s Vercise Deep Brain Stimulation System made to treat Parkinson’s disease.

Called the Vantage clinical trial, it will enroll 40 patients in Europe, Boston Scientific officials reported in a press release. The patients will be implanted with the Vercise system, a neurostimulation device that is designed to send electrical signals to certain parts of the brain.

Boston Scientific announced in October that it had signed a deal for its Neurovascular business to be acquired by Stryker Corp. for $1.5 billion in cash.
