Electrolytic Ozone moves to Wilmington, closes first funding round
By Michelle Lang
Electrolytic Ozone Inc. (EOI), an ozone generator manufacturer, has opened its new headquarters in Wilmington, coinciding with its completion of a Series A funding round.
Formerly based in the Cambridge Innovation Center and spun out of supermaterials firm Element Six Ltd., EOI develops ozone cells, using Element Six’s synthetic industrial diamonds, as an alternative to chemical or thermal sanitizers.
EOI did not disclose financial terms of the funding round, but the company website indicates that two board members, Sue Wheeler and Brendon Grunewald, work for E6 Group Ventures, the corporate venture fund of Element Six, which is part of the DeBeers Group. The financing will support the integration of EOI technology into light industrial and consumer manufacturing sectors with inclusion in water purifiers, dishwashers, washing machines and kitchen faucets.
The new Wilmington facility will serve as both corporate headquarters and research and development laboratory for the company. EOI noted that it expects to hire about 20 employees within its first year of operations.
