Feds fund Conn. solar power projects

By Kyle Alspach

The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund said it will provide $3 million of stimulus funding for solar power projects at commercial, industrial and institutional buildings in the state.

The grants intend to enable owners of solar photovoltaic systems to break even over the life of the equipment. Proposed projects must have a capacity of at least 50 kilowatt hours and cannot already be under construction.

Eligible applicants include real estate developers; owners of commercial, industrial or institutional sites; and companies engaged in the development of solar PV projects.

The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund is administered by Connecticut Innovations, a quasi-public authority. The fund reports that it has backed 143 commercial solar installations in Connecticut to date, while an additional 43 projects are in progress.

In September, the fund named project development director Dale A. Hedman as acting president. He replaced Lise Dondy, who announced her retirement in July after 18 years total with Connecticut Innovations.
