NitroSecurity lands $6M funding, buys LogMatrix unit

By Rodney H. Brown

NitroSecurity Inc., of Portsmouth, N.H., has landed $6 million in new funding and acquired the security business of Marlborough-based LogMatrix for an undisclosed amount.

The $6 million is a Series B funding round that was co-led by existing investors Brookline Venture Partners, First Analysis and NewSpring Ventures. The new funds will be used to expand NitroSecurity’s market presence, including the federal, healthcare and critical infrastructure sectors, further develop its NitroView SIEM product family and integrate LogMatrix’s risk-based assessment and correlation technologies into its existing product line, officials said.

Acquiring the LogMatrix security business and technology brings with it customers including AT&T. NitroSecurity makes high-performance security information and event management (SIEM) software that protect critical information and infrastructure. The LogMatrix security business unit specializes in risk-based assessment and correlation technologies.

In May, NitroSecurity pulled in $500,000 in a debt financing. In 2008, the company took in $10 million in Series D funding, which brought NitroSecurity’s total venture investment at the time to $35 million.

Prior to the 2008 funding round, NitroSecurity withdrew a $55 million initial public offering of stock, filed late in 2007.

Editor's note: LogMatrix's location was incorrectly reported in a previous version of this article. The company is located in Marlborough, Mass.
