Storage
Sepaton Inc. of Marlborough has named Mike Thompson as executive vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. Thompson comes to Sepaton after serving as president, chief executive officer and chairman at Egenera Corp. Before joining Egenera, Thompson was senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing and a member of the board of directors at Stratus Technologies, where he managed a 400-person operation that generated more than $700 million in annual revenue through direct and indirect channels. Prior to Stratus, Thompson served as director of U.S. sales operations for the financial line of business at Tandem Computers. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Southern Connecticut University.

Software
Waltham-based social software firm Mzinga Inc. has named Jem Pagán as senior vice president of engineering and Adam Rubin as vice president of software development. Pagán’s career includes positions with the Governor of Pennsylvania’s Office for Information Technology as chief architect of the Commonwealth; Maryland State Department of Public Safety, Corrections and Probation as chief network officer; Morgan State University’s School of Engineering; and TECCO Inc. Most recently, Pagán served as director of business development for Versatile Systems Inc. where he designed and coordinated new technology development partnerships in the areas of RFID, smartcards, enterprise security, identity management, virtualization and cloud computing. Prior to Mzinga, Rubin served as chief technology officer of Brighter Plane. Earlier in his career, he held strategic and executive positions at Public Interactive, Mullen Advertising, and JuniorNet.

Hardware
Taunton-based maker of an on-demand custom ice cream vending machine MooBella Inc. has added two appointments to the company’s board of directors. Thomas J. Galligan III, who also serves as executive chairman of the board of Papa Gino’s Holding Corp., and Ralph F. Verni, board chairman of the Eaton Vance family of mutual funds, will join the board. Galligan served as chairman, president and CEO of Papa Gino’s Holdings Corp. from February 1997 until October 2008 and chairman and CEO until March 2009 when he was appointed executive chairman. Galligan was associated with PepsiCo Inc. for eight years, serving as chief financial officer of its PepsiCo International and Pepsi Cola Bottling Group divisions. For the past 10 years Verni has served as a board member of numerous public and private ventures, including Commonwealth Capital Ventures LP and a software company that was financed by several leading private equity firms and which was later acquired by a NYSE corporation. Earlier in his career he served as president and CEO of State Street Research & Management, CFO and chief investment officer for New England Life and CEO of New England Investment Companies, all Boston-based firms.

Internet
Middleborough-based online backup and disaster recovery service provider Vault USA has added Bill Conley as the newest member of the technical support team, and Kim Derr as a social media marketer. Prior to joining Vault USA, Conley spent three years at Harvard University as an IT support specialist where he provided a variety of technical support to students, faculty, and staff. After leaving Harvard he worked at Mayflower Communications as systems administrator were he focused on company backup solutions and general IT maintenance. Derr graduated from Bridgewater State College with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a focused minor in public relations. After holding internships with Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. and the Community Service Center at BSC, she has acquired experience in the corporate communication and public relations fields.

Healthcare IT
Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard-affiliated integrated public healthcare system that serves Cambridge, Somerville and Boston’s metro-north region, has named Hilary Worthen as its chief medical information officer. Worthen most recently served as CHA’s senior director of clinical informatics, helping CHA harness data to inform decisions and create a more optimal patient care environment. Before devoting himself to IT full-time in 2000, Worthen held a variety of clinical positions. He joined the Cambridge Hospital (now part of CHA) in 1974 and, over the course of 25 years, helped establish a new Primary Care Unit, co-founded the Cambridge Family Health practice, served as medical director for Adult and Family Ambulatory Care, and was medical director of Inpatient Medical and Surgical Services at the Cambridge Hospital.

Services
Boston-based PJA Advertising + Marketing has named Robert Davis as senior vice president, digital marketing for both PJA’s East and West Coast operations. Prior to joining PJA, Davis spent four years as director of strategic services at THINK Interactive in Atlanta where he led strategy development for the agency. He was a partner at Goodman & Co., and had previously been executive creative director at PJA and at Ingalls Advertising, both in Boston.

Bryan Thomas has joined the Portland, Maine-based law firm Pierce Atwood LLP as regional office administrator, based in the firm’s Boston office, with responsibility for the administrative operations across the Portsmouth, Boston and Providence offices. Prior to joining Pierce Atwood, Thomas served as office administrator for Alston & Bird’s Raleigh, N.C., office, where he supervised administrative functions and support staff. He has several years of experience in law firm administration, focusing on human resources, accounting, facilities build-outs, emergency preparedness, project management, IT support and event planning. Thomas holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Colorado at Denver.

Life sciences
Abbie Celniker, CEO of Cambridge-based Taligen Therapeutics Inc., has been appointed by Gov. Deval Patrick to the board of directors of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center. The center, established by the legislature in 2006, is the quasi-public agency charged with implementing the state’s 10-year, $1 billion Life Sciences Act. Celniker has more than 20 years of experience in building biologics-focused businesses. Prior to joining Taligen, she was global head of biologics at Novartis. In this role, she built and managed the basic infrastructure and strategy for the late-stage discovery and development of protein therapeutics at Novartis. Previously, she held senior research and development position leadership roles with Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Wyeth BioPharma (Genetics Institute) and Genentech. Celniker will fill the seventh seat on the board, a seat that became available upon former ViaCell president and CEO Marc Beer’s completion of his term. Celniker recently was named as one of the 2010 Mass High Tech All-Stars honorees.

Medical devices
GI Dynamics Inc. of Lexington has named Wade Fox to vice president, marketing and Karl Blohm to the newly created role of vice president, international. Fox joins GI Dynamics from Covidien, where most recently he served as global director of strategic marketing, biologics and tissue repair. Prior to his role at Covidien, Fox held various marketing positions with Tissuescience Inc., Diomed Inc., Abiomed Inc., Smith and Nephew, Endoscopy Division and Baxter International. He received an MBA in finance and marketing from Wake Forest University. Prior to joining GI Dynamics, Blohm served as partner and general manager of AB Medica, a national medical technology distribution company he established in France. Prior to AB Medica, Blohm played a key role in leading the launches of medical devices and technologies in his previous positions at EndoGastric Solutions, Accuray Europe and Siemens. He received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Paris.
