Organogenesis HQ completion marks new hires, facility expansion

By Michelle Lang

Skin treatment developer Organogenesis Inc. has been celebrating the completion of its new Canton headquarters today, along with several announcements of a second-phase facility expansion, new job hires and an approval of one of its products by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority.

The announcements came today as Gov. Deval Patrick and Massachusetts Life Sciences Center President and CEO Susan Windham-Bannister celebrated joined Organogenesis for the celebration today.

In addition to the company’s headquarters, it is planning the second phase project to build a regenerative medicine research and development and manufacturing plant in Canton. The total expansion project, expected to be completed by 2013, will cost about $63 million, according to Organogenesis officials. The expenses have been partially covered by a two-year, $7.4-million grant the company received from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center.

Organogenesis also announced that it is currently hiring new employees, and has already added 50 new jobs since 2009. A participant in the state’s “Stay Here” initiative, the company – and the initiative itself – aims to attract new college graduates to remain in and work in Massachusetts.

Apligraf, Organogenesis’ living cell-based product to treat chronic wounds and diabetic foot ulcers, has also been approved by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the company reported. Apligraf won U.S. FDA approval in 1998.
