Synageva BioPharma Corp. has moved its headquarters from Waltham to Lexington, gaining more lab space for its rare disease drug treatments, the company reported today.
The company makes an enzyme replacement treatment, called SBC-102, for the rare childhood diseases Lysosomal Acid Lipase Deficiency, also known as Wolman Disease, and Cholesteryl Ester Storage Disease (CESD). SBC-102 is Synageva’s lead program.
In July, SBC-102 was granted orphan drug designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, making Synageva eligible for benefits like grant funding for clinical trials, tax credits, waiver of the FDA fees and seven years of market exclusivity upon approval.
Synageva moved its headquarters to Waltham in 2008, following 10 years in Atlanta under a former name, AviGenics.
