Mass. takes in $3.6M stimulus funds for e-health records
By Michelle Lang
Massachusetts’ implementation of electronic health records got a $3.6 million injection of federal funding on Tuesday.
According to a report from the Massachusetts State House News Service, the federal matching funds will be used to support an e-health program created last year under the federal economic stimulus law.
The news supports findings in a recent survey conducted by the College of Health Information Management Executives (CHIME), indicating that 90 percent of CHIME member respondents expect to qualify for stimulus funding by Sept. 30, 2012.
In February, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick announced that the commonwealth landed $25.6 million in federal funding for health information technology – $15 million of which was expected to support electronic health records implementation. Patrick pushed for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding in a meeting with federal officials in November.
