AccelGolf's mobile app has game and ROI covered
By Mass High Tech staff
AccelGolf
Location: Portland, Maine
Web: www.accelgolf.com/
Date founded: 2009
Top executive: Will Sulinski, CEO
Industry: Golf scoring and distance mobile phone app
With 80,000 golfer-users swinging away, AccelGolf’s rangefinder and performance tracking app for the mobile phone is turning their games into anonymized data, and selling that data to golf equipment makers and other companies in the $76 billion golf industry. While players are comparing notes and figuring out whether their short game got any better with the new clubs they got for Christmas, AccelGolf is tracking distance and accuracy of each club and ball used.
Founded in 2008 as mCaddie Inc. and still incorporated under that name, AccelGolf participated in the first TechStars Boston startup accelerator program in 2009, returning to Portland afterward to pick up a $250,000, no-interest startup loan from the State of Maine.
From the top, founder and CEO Will Sulinski: “We enhance training and competition by aggregating and analyzing real-time performance data. Our iPhone and BlackBerry applications have reached number one in the sports sections of their respective app stores.”
