New England tech firms play in weather-related product sector
By Mass High Tech staff
Mass High Tech's New England Technology Directory lists 8,000 companies. Among those we found some that offer weather-related products and services.
Ambient Devices, Cambridge
Ambient Devices says that it enables effortless, instant access to information, such as weather forecasts, stock market activity, sports scores, and more – without a PC or Internet connection. Think of things like alarm clocks that also present weather forecasts. Don’t hit the snooze, hurricane coming.
A.R.A. Inc., Seavey Division, Pembroke
Seavey Engineering became a part of the Antenna Research Corp. in 2003. Since then the Seavey Division (SEA) has continued to specialize in the production and development of satellite systems and land-based microwave communications, including weather radar systems. Not exactly for the home owner.
Broadcast Weather Solutions, Westford
BWS describes itself as a leading provider of weather consulting services for media and business. The company, headed by former TV meteorologist Terry Casey, helps television stations and other media outlets improve their weather presentations, trains weather reporters and advises insurance companies and other organizations on weather-related services. Don’t like what your meteorologist is saying, send them to BWS.
Pulse Systems Inc., Canton
Pulse Systems designs systems for applications including weather monitoring, meteorological systems, wind shear detection, airborne Doppler radar, shipboard Doppler radar, military and defense. From hurricanes to homeland security.
RainWise Inc., Bar Harbor, Maine
RainWise makes meteorological equipment for consumer, enterprise and industrial applications. The company says it offers more than 50 rain and temperature gauges, monitors, sensors, and related software products for weather enthusiasts, municipalities, federal government, and industrial manufacturers. It will be nice to know just how much rain gets dumped on you.
WSI, Andover
This Weather Channel company pitches itself as the trusted source of weather information for energy trading groups, utility companies, insurance professionals and financial institutions, supplying them with weather guidance to help anticipate market volatility, mitigate risk and make critical decisions. Note, hurricanes tend to mess up any risk analysis.
