Mobile Monday Boston co-founder Kate Imbach has left her role as vice president of marketing for Boston-based Skyhook Wireless Inc., and has taken a similar role at 8tracks Inc., a San Francisco Internet radio company.
"It was a tough decision to leave Boston and Skyhook after a bunch of awesome years," Imbach said in an e-mail. "But I am thrilled at the opportunity to join 8tracks.”Skyhook CEO Ted Morgan said in an e-mail, “She was a great asset to Skyhook and the Boston entrepreneurial community with her dedication to Mobile Monday Boston. We wish her the best in her new endeavor.”
Imbach is also a founder of the Silicon Valley chapter of Mobile Monday, a mobile industry networking group that first launched in Helsinki, Finland, in 2000.
The Boston chapter held its first meeting in April 2006, hosting approximately 20 people in a classroom at MIT. At its annual meeting in 2009, “MoMo” drew more than 500 industry people.
According to Imbach, Matt Gross, co-founder of Mobile Monday Boston, will continue to run the local chapter, while she will be continue to be involved in the Silicon Valley chapter.
The company Imbach has joined, 8tracks, which is based both in San Francisco and New York, describes itself as a non-interactive Internet radio service, in which users can assemble virtual mix-tapes of favorite songs that others can listen to. The site is free with advertising, or $25 for six months for 8tracks+, with no ads.
