Social networking startup MedNetworks partners with Healthways

By Michelle Lang

MedNetworks Inc., a Newton developer of social networking technology for doctors and patients, has formed a partnership with Healthways Inc., a human health and well-being program developer.

MedNetworks has an exclusive license with the company’s scientific founder, Harvard University professor Nicholas Christakis, to use the social networking tech in health management. The startup uses the mapping and analysis technology with information related to administrative and communications data, and identifies trends and forecasting in areas of healthcare.

In the new partnership, MedNetworks’ social networks will support Healthways’ behavior change models for sustainable behavior change, like smoking cessation.

MedNetworks launched earlier this month with $5 million in its first funding round from Excel Venture Management.
