Database software firm Tokutek lands $2.8M

By Galen Moore

Tokutek Inc. has raised $2.8 million toward a planned $3.7 million round of equity financing, the database software startup reported in a regulatory filing this week.

With offices in Lexington and New York City, Tokutek makes indexing software designed to improve the scalability of MySQL databases. Originally known as Yobistore, it was founded by Stony Brook University professors Michael Bender and Martin Farach-Colton, and MIT research scientist Bradley Kuszmaul.

Boston-area database entrepreneur John Partridge, who co-founded StreamBase Systems with Michael Stonebraker, is the company’s president and CEO.

Partridge and Kuszmaul did not return messages seeking comment. No one else at the firm could be reached.

The Wednesday regulatory filing lists four board members, but their identities could not be confirmed.
