PAETEC Holding Corp., a Fortune 1000 telecommunications company whose CEO has close ties to MIT, plans to open a massive new data center in Andover today.
The Fairpoint, N.Y.-based company said it would open the two-story, nearly 93,000-square foot center to support customers in New England and on the East Coast.
The data center will offer services including data backup and recovery, dedicated hosted services and shared web hosting, with more services planned for the next two years that will aim to help customers transition to cloud computing, PAETEC officials said. The center will feature 40,000 square feet of raised floor space and will be staffed by 11 employees, the company said.
PAETEC’s founder and CEO is Arunas Chesonis, an alumnus of the MIT civil engineering program. In 2008, the Chesonis Family Foundation, of which Chesonis is the benefactor, donated $10 million to the MIT Solar Revolution Project. The project funds research that seeks to make solar energy more affordable and mainstream.
