Tektronix Communications, a Plano, Texas subsidiary of Danaher Corp. (NYSE: DHR), has agreed to acquire Arbor Networks Inc. of Chelmsford, the companies announced in a press release today.
Arbor makes security software for network and data center operators and had raised at least $33 million in venture capital financing from investors including Comcast Interactive Capital, Battery Ventures and Cisco Systems. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close in the next three to six weeks.
According to Arbor Networks CEO Colin Doherty, the company and its 275 employees will remain based in Chelmsford as an independent subsidiary of Tektronix. “I think we’re actually better equipped to grow under a company the size of Danaher that has got a track record of acquiring every year,” Doherty said. “I think it’s an opportunity to grow organically and inorganically in the region.”
Danaher and TekTronix Senior Vice President Rich McBee declined to elaborate on plans for further growth in Massachusetts. However, McBee said Arbor is the company’s first acquisition of a technology company with East Coast headquarters and fits in with the company’s existing suite of network management software tools. McBee said he hopes Arbor will be a “cornerstone” for further expansion in the region.
The two companies had been in merger discussions for about a year, McBee said.
Editor's Note: Arbor Networks has 275 employees.
