Bluefin Robotics starts work on new Quincy Shipyard home

Bluefin Robotics Inc., a Cambridge-based maker of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), has begun work on building a 54,000-square-foot facility in the Quincy Shipyard. The company plans to relocate there in the fall. Bluefin’s construction manager, Commodore Builders, has awarded 28 subcontracts to various trades to refurbish the aging building for AUV development, production and testing. The new location provides Bluefin with direct access to the ocean for marine operations, which is currently conducted in East Boston. Jacob’s Engineering Group is supplying architecture and engineering services. The landlord is Quincy Shipyard LLC, an affiliate of Jay Cashman Inc.


SensAble Technologies moves HQ to Wilmington

SensAble Technologies Inc. will lease 28,000 square feet of office and R&D space on the first floor of 181 Ballardvale St., Wilmington in the Ballardvale Office Park for its new headquarters. Richards Barry Joyce & Partners LLC brokered on behalf of AEW Capital Management LP and Griffith Properties LLC, owners of Ballardvale Office Park. SensAble, which is relocating from Woburn, was represented by Matt Daniels and Chris Lawrence of Colliers Meredith & Grew in the deal, while the landlords were represented by RBJ&P’s John Wilson, Brian McKenzie, and James Lipscomb.

Slew of tech firms re-up at 299-301 Ballardvale
Ballardvale Associates LLC, a joint venture managed by Essex River Ventures Inc., a Boston-based real estate investment firm, today announced that it recently executed on a handful of new lease transactions involving tech companies at its property, 299-301 Ballardvale, which straddles Wilmington and Andover. The landlord executed a half dozen new leases and lease renewals totaling about 130,000 square feet. Among them are a new 10-year-lease with the federal agency the General Services Administration, a five-year lease with Pixtronix for 14,230 square feet; a 20,400 square foot renewal with RockStar New England; and 7,700 square foot lease with Immedia Semiconductor.  In addition a number of leases were renewed including Automated Engineering for 8,000 square feet, Proto-Pac Engineering for 15,800 square feet, GE HealthCare for 23,000 square feet and Advanced Electron Beams for 45,000 square feet. NAI Hunneman represented the landlord and the property.

Data management

Netezza expands at its Marborough headquarters
Richards Barry Joyce & Partners brokered an 88,272 square foot lease renewal and expansion on behalf of Great Point Investors at 26 Forest St. in Marlborough for Netezza Corp. Netezza occupies office space on the building’s first, second and third floors. The company expanded its presence in the building by 20,483 square feet, having previously leased 67,789 square feet. The lease brings 26 Forest Street to full occupancy. The three-story building is located in the Lake Williams Corporate Center. John Lashar, Paul Leone and Samantha Hallowell of Richards Barry Joyce & Partners represented Great Point Investors in the transaction. Netezza was represented by Kevin Hanna of FHO Partners.

Broadview Networks renews data center lease in Charlestown
Broadview Networks, a communication services provider delivering voice, data, internet, and IP-based communications signed a 10,464-square-foot data center lease at 500 Rutherford Ave., Charlestown. The deal represents a renewal of their existing data center facility lease. 500 Rutherford Avenue, owned by Nordic Properties, is a three story, 300,000-square-foot office building located near I-93. The building was constructed in 1928 and was renovated in 1997. Tim Latham, Kevin Malloy and Campbell Walker of Lincoln Property Co. represented Broadview Networks. The landlord was represented by Tim Bianchi and Debra J. Gould of Cushman & Wakefield Inc.
