Nuclea Biotechnologies LLC, a cancer research firm based in Worcester and Pittsfield, opened the Nuclea Genomics Center Wednesday in Pittsfield.
The new 3,500-square-foot facility, the second phase of Nuclea’s expansion plan, will be used for the company’s instrumentation and bioinformatics related to gene expression profiles.
Nuclea has hired three unnamed technology positions and transferred two positions for the new facility.
The biotech is planning to open a biomanufacturing facility in Pittsfield by the end of this year, as the third phase of the company’s expansion plan. The new facility would potentially prompt up to 15 new hires within a year or two, according to a news release from the company.
Nuclea’s Genomics Center opening was attended by Susan Windham-Bannister, president and CEO of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, where Nuclea has participated in the organization’s Internship Challenge program.
In October, Nuclea closed out a $3.4 million equity deal originally announced in June 2009 with an investment by New York-based Private Equity Investors Inc.
