Azuki taps Clancy as new president, CEO

By Rodney H. Brown

Former Iron Mountain Digital president John Clancy has taken on the roles of president and CEO of mobile media software company Azuki Systems Inc. Clancy joins Azuki from Schooner Capital where he served as CEO in residence after leaving Iron Mountain.

Clancy replaces president and CEO Jim Ricotta, who took on the top roles at Acton-based Azuki in December of 2007, when the company was known as PeerMeta Inc. Ricotta was the first president and CEO for the company, which was founded by networking industry veteran Cheng Wu, the company’s chairman.

Since it was founded in September of 2007, Azuki has raised a total of $12 million. The latest was a $3 million tranche earlier this month, which was part of an expanded Series A round that began last May, with two venture firms participating – Kepha, and Sigma Partners of Boston.

Among the customers Azuki landed in 2009 are CBS, Fox Mobile, Sony and Time Warner. In 2010, the company began a pilot program with Comcast Corp., providing a software component of the Philadelphia-based cable provider’s TV Everywhere service, which debuted in a trial launch last December.

Azuki reports having just under 50 employees.
