GT Solar lands $23M reactor order

By Michelle Lang

GT Solar International Inc. has landed a follow-on order worth $23.4 million from OCI Company Ltd., a polysilicon developer in South Korea, to provide its reactors for polysilicon production.

The order is expected to help OCI Company expand its polysilicon plant.

GT Solar’s SDR 400 CVD reactors are designed to produce 400 metric tons of polysilicon a year and lower energy use by 20 percent compared to the company’s SDR 300.

Merrimack, N.H.-based GT Solar (Nasdaq: SOLR) announced last week that it was acquiring Salem-based sapphire producer Crystal Systems, giving GT Solar access to crystalline growth technology that can be used to manufacture large-area substrates.
