Skyworks Solutions Inc. posted solid growth for its fiscal third quarter which ended June 30, noting a profit of $34.7 million versus $18.7 million in net income for the same quarter in 2009.
The Woburn company, which makes semiconductors for analog and mixed signals applications, saw revenues climb as well, posting $275.4 million for Q3 2010, a 44 percent jump over the $191.2 million reported for the same period last year.
Among the highlights of the quarter, Skyworks (Nasdaq: SWKS) called out that it had received a milestone technology award from Huawei in recognition of excellence in base station innovation, and was powering Samsung’s 4G USB modem, the world’s first commercialized LTE device.
Unlike the last two quarters, however, Skyworks is not characterizing this latest quarter as “record.” In April, the company said it had revenue of $238 million for Q2, versus $173 million for the same period in 2009. That was the second in a trend for Skyworks. In January, the company reported record first quarter numbers of $245 million, versus $210 million in the first quarter of 2009.
According to the company, Skyworks was part of the Nexus One phone recently launched by Google Inc. and manufactured by HTC. Skyworks has long been rumored to be supplying chips for Apple Inc.’s iPhone, but neither company has confirmed the deal.
Publicly traded since 1984, Skyworks reports 3,300 employees worldwide. In June of 2009, Skyworks reported plans to buy California-based mobile phone power amplifier developer Axiom Devices Inc. for an undisclosed amount.
