Progressive Business Leaders Network backs ed standard

The Progressive Business Leaders Network (PBLN) today announced its support for adoption of the Common Core Standards by the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In a press statement, PBLN said it supports the stance of Massachusetts Secretary of Education Paul Reville and the Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education. PBLN, a peer-to-peer network of CEOs and other top executives, said that the proposed Common Core Standards “provide far more than adequate rigor, flexibility, independence and quality to ensure Massachusetts remains a national leader in education of our children.”

The organization said the combination of the education reforms of 2010 and the Common Core Standards will increase the prospect of innovation and excellence for teachers and students.

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is being coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers. The initiative, adopted by half of the states, is intended to provide a consistent framework to prepare children for college and the work force.
