Army adds $6.7M to AS&E bomb detection order

By Michelle Lang

Billerica-based X-ray detection systems developer American Science and Engineering Inc. (AS&E) has received a $6.7 million order from the U.S. government for its ZBV military trailers.

The order adds to an April award valued at $34 million, bringing the total funded award to $40.7 million. AS&E (Nasdaq: ASEI) officials noted in a press release today that the full award could reach up to $48.8 million. The April announcement indicated that the 37 ZBV trailers ordered at the time were to be used by the U.S. Army for entry control points in Afghanistan.

The ZBV military trailer is a rugged X-ray screening vehicle that screens vehicles for car and truck bombs and is used in counterterrorist measures.
