MHT's Galen Moore: N.E. firms target individual carbon footprints
A Lowell youth agency and clean energy company Nexamp announced Wednesday the completion of a solar array on the agency’s building.
The United Teen Equality Center received the 33-kilowatt solar photovoltaic installation as part of a “deep energy retrofit” to the building. The state announced $1.9 million in federal stimulus funding for the project in March.
The installation is expected to supply roughly 88 percent of the electricity consumed annually by the agency, equivalent to the annual electricity consumed by six average Massachusetts households.
Nexamp, based in North Andover, installed the array and will continue to own and operate it, selling the power to the agency at a fixed rate for a period of 25 years.
