Partners HealthCare’s Center for Connected Health has completed research that it says shows that remote online visits produced the clinical outcomes that were the equivalent of conventional office care.
The center, which focuses on technology-enabled healthcare and new strategies for healthcare, said the research involved 121 patients with mild to moderate facial acne. Study participants had initial face-to-face consultations, and then were split into two groups, one that went through conventional office care and one that interacted with physicians using digital cameras and a secure website.
The Boston center said quality of care was equivalent in both groups, and that most of the participants in the e-visits were satisfied with the level of care and the convenience and time savings of electronic care. The research was conducted through Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
According to a press release from the Center for Connected Health, the study is documented in a recent issue of Archives of Dermatology.
