Hop Skip Connect renames to Healthrageous, raises $6M series A round

By Galen Moore

Partners Healthcare spinoff Hop Skip Connect Inc. has an oversubscribed Series A round and a new name.

The Center for Connected Health spinoff has paperwork pending to incorporate as Healthrageous Inc. It closed a $6 million Series A round, the company reported in a regulatory filing late yesterday – $1 million more than the target for the round disclosed to Mass High Tech by Partners’ Center for Connected Health director Joe Kvedar in April.

Healthrageous spun off from a pilot project conducted with EMC Corp., designed to let large employers manage employee wellness, starting with remote blood pressure monitoring. North Bridge Venture Partners is the lead investor on the round, with Egan Managed Capital and Long River Ventures joining the deal.

The company, which is incubating out of North Bridge’s Waltham office, has since moved beyond that to develop a mass customization model designed to deliver unique messaging based on input from biometric wireless sensors, said CEO Rick Lee, formerly of Magellan Health Services Inc.

EMC will return as a paying customer this fall, Lee said. Healthrageous plans to sign another large, paying customer in July. The company’s product is designed to process information from 60 different versions of wireless biometric sensors and respond with relevant feedback via mobile phone, PC or WebTV, Lee said.

“That model of trying to be more heterogeneous as opposed to the one-size-fits-all approach is really responding to what we see in retail, which is Amazon, Netflix, financial services – they’re all adapting to customer services and user preferences,” Lee said. “We’re convinced that we can do the same in healthcare.”
