Luminus Devices lighting up roadways

By Kyle Alspach

LED lighting firm Luminus Devices Inc. is expanding into roadway lighting through a partnership with a Connecticut manufacturer, Luminus announced.

The Billerica-based firm plans to provide its LEDs for fixtures that will be made by ABS Lighting of New Haven, Conn., for use on roadway underpasses and in highway tunnels.

Luminus said its LEDs are ideal for underpasses and tunnels because they last more than 60,000 hours, reducing the need to close roads or highways as frequently to replace the lights.

ABS Lighting’s LED roadway fixture will come equipped with three Luminus CSM-360 W PhlatLight LEDs, Luminus said.

Luminus also said its LEDs are designed to provide an ultra-bright, reliable light source. PhlatLight LEDs are currently used by companies including Acer, LG, Philips Vari*Lite, Sony, Samsung and Toshiba, according to Luminus.

Luminus maintains its corporate offices and engineering, assembly and test operations in Billerica. Its semiconductor foundry is located in Woburn.
