Network equipment maker Sonus Networks Inc. is looking for a new CEO, as Richard Nottenburg announced his plans to step down as president and CEO by March 2011. Nottenburg will also leave his position on the board, Sonus said.
Nottenburg joined Sonus (Nasdaq: SONS) as CEO in June 2008, recruited to replace then CEO Hassan Ahmed, who stepped down that summer. Previously, Nottenburg served as vice president and chief strategy officer at Motorola Inc.
Ahmed continued to serve as chairman of the Westford company, which makes Internet protocol-based networking and telecommunications equipment, until December of 2008, when he was replaced by director Howard Janzen. Ahmed went on to join Charles River Ventures as a senior advisor in April of 2009. CRV was an early investor in Sonus.
Sonus, which employs about 880 people, reported a loss of $130,000 on revenue of $62.4 million for the first quarter of 2010. That bucks the trend of three profitable previous quarters and is better than the $16.2 million loss from the first quarter of 2009.
