Interleukin Genetics Inc., a developer of genetics-based tests for the consumer market, has named independent venture capitalist William Mills III to its board of directors.
Mills takes over the role from Interleukin president and chief scientific officer Ken Korman, who will continue in his executive positions.
Mills sits on the board of managers of Ascension Health Ventures and previously served as a partner with Boston private equity and venture capital firm Advent International, where he co-led the health-care venture capital investments in the medical technology and biopharmaceutical sectors. He also worked as general partner at The Venture Capital Fund of New England and as managing general partner at PaineWebber Ventures/Ampersand Ventures.
Mills earned a master’s degree in chemistry from MIT, a master’s degree in management from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Princeton University.
Interleukin Genetics (AMEX: ILI) develops swabs and related tools that enable people to collect genetic material as well as tests that monitor everything from nutritional health to the onset of periodontal disease. Last month, the company announced that institutional investors have agreed to pay about $5.3 million for a combination of company stock and warrants.
