Concord’s TCC lands $9.7M order to secure radios

By Rodney H. Brown

Secure communications technology firm Technical Communications Corp. has taken in new orders worth approximately $9.7 million for radio encryption units to be used by NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Concord-based Technical Communications, which trades on the Over the Counter Bulletin Board under the symbol TCCO, received the orders under subcontract from Datron World Communications Inc., officials said. The DSP 9000 radio encryptors will be used to allow local Afghan National forces to communicate securely with NATO and U.S. forces.

With the new order, Technical Communication’s sales for 2010 have reached approximately $20 million, a new record for the 49-year-old company, according to officials. Technical Communications began selling its ruggedized, military-grade secure radio technology 15 years ago, and the company says its systems are used by government agencies and armed forces in more than 100 countries.

In addition to the radio encryptors, Technical Communications makes products such as a hardware-based encryptor box for IP-based data and communications, and the CipherTalk 8000, a quad-band GSM PDA and phone that provides fully encrypted mobile communications.

Technical Communications reported 32 employees as of the end of 2009. For the full year of 2009, the company reported a profit of $2.36 million on revenue of $4.76 million.
