Google reported to eye $1 billion buyout of ITA Software

By Galen Moore

Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG) is in talks to acquire ITA Software Inc. of Cambridge, Bloomberg News reported this morning. The aviation industry software maker reportedly is asking $1 billion.

Bootstrapped in 1999 by MIT computer scientists, ITA took its first institutional financing in January 2006 – a $100 million equity round that included Battery Ventures, General Catalyst Partners, PAR Investment Partners, Sequoia Capital and Spectrum Equity.

This morning’s Bloomberg report cited three unnamed sources familiar with the discussions. An ITA Software spokeswoman could not immediately be reached.

ITA Software provides airline industry information technology and services.
