A week after Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) launched its iPad touch-screen device, venture capital investors have backed a Cambridge startup that is developing software for competing devices on Google Inc.’s (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android operating system.
Tap ‘n Tap Inc. has received $1.6 million in a Series A round of financing led by New Atlantic Ventures, CEO and co-founder Javier Segovia confirmed today. He said the funds will let Tap ‘n Tap bring multiple iPad competitors to market later this year.
“We hope this takes us to profitability,” Segovia said.
He declined to discuss the device manufacturers that Tap n’ Tap has partnered with. In a January Mass High Tech profile of the company, Segovia said Tap ‘n Tap is working with two Asian OEMs on products set to hit the market at under $300.
The financing was first reported in regulatory documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Friday.
New Atlantic Ventures is located in the Cambridge Innovation Center, which Tap ‘n Tap also calls home. Innovation Center owner Tim Rowe is a partner at the firm.
