RunMyErrand changes name to TaskRabbit

By Galen Moore

RunMyErrand LLC has changed its name to TaskRabbit in a rebranding forecasted by CEO and founder Leah Busque in an interview with Mass High Tech last month.

The Cambridge company, which provides an online marketplace for odd jobs, recently moved Busque and other key executives out west to focus on the launch of the service in its second city, San Francisco. The company’s official headquarters remain in Cambridge for now, but the decision as to where it will permanently locate is up in the air, Busque said.

The new name emphasizes the startup’s focus on tasks beyond running errands – such as jump starting a car battery, setting up a printer or creating a soundtrack for a party, Busque said in an emailed press release today.

Founded in Charlestown in 2008 by Busque, a former IBM Corp. engineer, TaskRabbit incubated in the Cambridge offices of Zipcar Inc., before establishing its own office in Cambridge earlier this year. With $1 million in venture-capital backing from West Coast firms Floodgate (formerly known as Maples Investments) and Baseline Ventures, plus a $150,000 angel round closed early last year, the company currently has five employees.
