Kopin reels in $27M military eyepiece order
By Mass High Tech staff
Microdisplay technology maker Kopin Corp. has landed a $27 million order for high-performance eyepieces for the U.S. Army Thermal Weapon Sight Bridge program. The order covers a time frame of two years.
The eyepieces are developed with the company’s low-power CyberDisplay 640M LVR display. Intended for a number of weapons, the TWS-IIB eyepieces are made to work at temperatures down to -40 degrees Celsius, with the ability to “dissipate less than 155 megawatts during normal video operation,” given its ‘Instant-On’ capability.
Taunton-based Kopin (Nasdaq: KOPN) made news last year after it announced it had partnered with Motorola Inc. to introduce a wireless headset with a high-definition virtual display and speech recognition for remote control of things such as smart phones and PCs.
