Amherst-based startup CampusLive Inc. reports it has launched its college-specific video chat service.
CampusLive’s software-as-a-service product allows college students to talk to students on other campuses via real-time video chat. Students can filter who they chat with by gender, campus and conversation topic, the company said. The service also allows users to log in using Facebook connect, which lets students talk to their Facebook friends.
In a release, the company marketed its product as a safer alternative to ChatRoulette, the controversial randomized video chat website which has made news recently.
CampusLive, a University of Massachusetts Amherst spinout, was founded in 2008. The company, which landed more than $300,000 in angel funding in January, has 10 full-time employees.
The company was chosen as one of Mass High Tech’s “Startup Watch: Five you should follow” in February.
