Mass. High Tech Council names Rooney as VP

By Mass High Tech staff

The Massachusetts High Technology Council has hired Boston Foundation executive James D. Rooney as vice president, placing him in charge of managing the council’s public affairs and driving its public policy agenda.

The council, based in Waltham and representing many of the state’s key technology employers, said that Rooney, who has been director of public affairs at the Boston Foundation, will oversee the development of the council’s public policy teams and will manage MassTrack.org, the council’s online government assessment tool.

Council president Christopher R. Anderson said Rooney has been a “valuable partner” for the tech council, noting in a press release, “He is very well regarded in policy and political circles and has experience working in a CEO-level organization.”

At the Boston Foundation, Rooney led advocacy at the state and federal levels and helped to drive the Race to the Top Coalition, a tech council-supported initiative of education stakeholders.
Prior to the Boston Foundation, he was policy director at CEOs for Cities, an alliance of urban leaders that promotes the competitive advantage of cities.

Rooney is a graduate of Brown University and earned his master’s degree in public administration from Harvard Kennedy School in 2001.
