EnerNOC acquires SmallFoot for small commercial sites
By Mass High Tech staff
Boston-based energy management technology firm EnerNOC Inc. has acquired SmallFoot LLC, a Boulder, Colo.-based wireless demand control solutions developer for small commercial sites.
The acquisition is expected to help lower the cost of deploying EnerNOC’s DemandSMART application for small commercial sites and expand possibilities for delivering its SiteSMART, SupplySMART and CarbonSMART applications. EnerNOC chief operating officer Darren Brady noted in a press release that the addition of SmallFoot also helps EnerNOC reduce costs associated with infrastructure and data acquisition for the small commercial market.
No financial terms of the acquisition deal were disclosed.
SmallFoot’s wireless demand control solutions manages energy demand by shifting load to off-peak times. It works with IEEE 802.15.4 and Zigbee wireless communication standards.
EnerNOC (Nasdaq: ENOC) officials noted the Energy Information Administration’s data that 90 percent of commercial facilities are categorized as small commericial sites, which are often neglected by demand response firms because of the high costs of technology implementation.
In December, EnerNOC announced that it had used $3 million in company stock to acquire Cogent Energy Inc., a California firm that provides Monitoring-Based Commissioning (MBCx) services primarily to schools and smaller building facilities.
