By Mass High Tech staff
Connecticut-based STR Holdings Inc. has named Charles Reid as its chief technology officer, in charge of leading the company’s photovoltaic solar panel development and commercialization. In the newly created position, Reid will oversee the research and development and technical service parts of the STR technology group and will report to Robert Yorgensen, president of STR Solar.
Reid joins STR having served most recently as a principal at polymer application science-focused Manzanita Consulting LLC. Prior to that position, he worked as technology manager of Solvay Engineered Polymers’ Specialty and New Business Development Group.
Reid earned both a M.S. in mechanical engineering and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, with a polymer materials science concentration, from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and a B.S. in physics/liberal arts from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore.
STR Holdings, located in Enfield, Conn., started as a plastics research and development company in 1944 and is now a manufacturer of encapsulants for photovoltaic solar panels. The company announced its initial public offering in November, offering 12.3 million shares at $10 per share, or about $123 million. STR originally announced plans for a $300 million offering in August of 2008 but later withdrew that filing.
