Pescatello named president of New England Biotech Association

By Mass High Tech staff

At its annual meeting, the New England Biotech Association (NEBA) elected Paul Pescatello as its president for 2010.

A board member since NEBA’s founding, Pescatello serves as director of Connecticut United for Research Excellence (CURE).

The new president has noted a major focus for NEBA this year will be on educating future biotechnology workers.

NEBA has 600 members included in its nonprofit organization, which consists of companies, biotech associations and academic institutions. Among the biotech associations included are Biotech Association of Maine, CURE, New Hampshire Bio/Medical Council, Rhode Island BioGroup, Massachusetts High Technology Council and the Biotech Association of Vermont.

Last April, NEBA played a role in opposing a Vermont bill in the state legislature that would deter biotechnology and life sciences companies from moving to and growing in the state, NEBA officials said.

NEBA was founded in 2008, with Paula Newton, president of the New Hampshire Bio/Medical Council, taking the first role as chairman.
