Haemonetics takes on blood typing product
By Mass High Tech staff
Haemonetics Corp. reports it has licensed reagent technology from a Scotland-based company.
Under the deal, Braintree-based Haemonetics will use reagents developed by Edinburgh-based Alba Bioscience, a developer of blood typing and screening products, in its laser-based blood typing system, called Arryx.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, other than to say it includes possible milestone payments triggered by Alba’s optimization of its reagents for Haemonetics.
On Thursday, Haemonetics announced it extended the deadline it had set for Global Med Technologies Inc. to accept its acquisition offer to midnight on Wednesday, March 24. Last month, Haemonetics made a $60 million cash tender offer to acquire Global Med, which was subsequently sued by shareholders to prevent the sale. To settle the suit, Global Med agreed to “provide supplemental disclosures in its solicitation/recommendation statement,” and the companies agreed to lower the deal’s termination fee from $2.6 million to $2.4 million.
Haemonetics (NYSE: HAE) develops blood management products in the areas of blood collection and separation technology, surgical blood salvage systems and diagnostic products.
