UMassOnline brings Masson on as CTO

By Brendan Lynch

The University of Massachusetts reports it has hired Patrick Jay Masson as chief technology officer of its UMassOnline distance-learning division.

Masson replaces outgoing CTO Brian Douglas, who is now associate vice president for budget and administration. Masson will report to UMassOnline CEO Ken Udas.

Masson previously served as chief information officer at the State University of New York, where he had previously worked with Udas. Prior to that, he worked in IT roles at the University of California Los Angeles.

Earlier this month, UMass president Jack Wilson, who became the founding CEO of UMassOnline in 2001, announced he will resign at the end of his term, concluding June 30, 2011. Since 2001, UMassOnline has grown almost 700 percent in enrollment with revenue growing from $3 million to $47 million.
