Rapid7 finds $2M in VC funding

By Galen Moore

Rapid7 LLC has raised $2 million of a planned $4 million venture round, the Boston security software company reported in a regulatory filing posted last week.

Bain Capital Ventures, which funded the company’s $7 million Series A round in late 2008, returned to lead the Series B round as the sole institutional investor, said marketing director Bernd Leger. Rapid7, founded in 2000, has so far raised about $9 million in venture capital.

Revenue for 2009 was between $10 million and $15 million, Leger said. Rapid7 has about 120 employees, with research and development based in Los Angeles.

“This is mainly to support our planned growth,” Leger said. “We’ve been growing 100 percent year over year the last five years.”
