Quick Hit scores distribution deal with IGN for football game

By Rodney H. Brown

Social sports games developer Quick Hit Inc. — appropriately enough based in Foxborough — has signed a distribution deal with the largest gaming site on the web, IGN, which will make the game available through its network of sites, including Direct2Drive, FilePlanet, AskMen and IGN.com.

No financial details of the deal were disclosed, but Quick Hit CEO and founder Jeffrey Anderson said that it will boost “awareness for Quick Hit among the gaming community.” Primarily Quick Hit is touting its free-to-play Quick Hit Football and hopes that the IGN deal will increase the number of players exposed to Quick Hit Football in the off season. That number of players broke the 1 million registered users mark in its first season, 2009, according to officials.

The game Quick Hit Football has been in open beta since November, according to Quick Hit officials.

Quick Hit was launched by Anderson in 2008 as Play Hard Sports Inc. Anderson was previously CEO of online game company Turbine Inc. from 2001 until October 2007. The company took in $8 million in a Series B funding round in January of 2009, bringing the total invested in Quick Hit to $13 million. Backers include Valhalla Partners, TriplePoint Capital and New Enterprise Associates.
