Engineering and design firm KaZaK Composites Inc. reports it is working as a subcontractor for Boeing Co. on an unmanned aerial vehicle project.
Under the deal, Woburn-based KaZaK will build the airframe of the planned UAV for Boeing’s Integrated Defense Systems unit. The airframe will provide the housing for electrical and other components for miniature weapons, which the project is intended to demonstrate.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Boeing is developing the UAV under a Small Business Innovation Research grant. If awarded, the second phase of the program would be valued at $6.5 million over two years.
KaZaK Composites won a patent in 2007 for a new wing system to help missiles fly for longer periods at greater ranges -- at half the cost of stainless steel. In addition to its Woburn headquarters, the company built a manufacturing plant in 2008 in Hudson, N.H.
